Getting the trailer ready

I bought a 1987 bigfoot fifth wheel last summer. It is 20 feet long and a tandem axle. When I got it, the axle had a spring over axle conversion done to it. In doing the lift the trailer brake wires has been cut and not reconnected. I fixed that this spring and installed new tires and rims. The old tires that the previous owner put on were 14" low profile winter passenger car tires. They bulged out like crazy. I was worried they were going to fail. (See above pics) The trailer does call for a 14" rimed tire but I went with 15" American racing outlaw II rims. I picked them up from a fellow four wheeler in Terrace. The tires are a 225 75 R15". They have ample room as the trailer has been lifted. This has made the trailer look much better and a lot safer.

Tonight I pulled the hot water system out of the trailer as it was disconnected, and for good reason. I reconnected the water hoses and turned the water on. The tank leaked like a sive. My brother Steve and I hooked up the propane system and found that the propane system for the heater worked so that is a bonus.

Upon inspection of the tank, I found a three inch crack where the tank had failed. It is made from aluminum but that shouldn't be too much of a problem to weld up. I will be working on that tomorrow night.

More later.

June 3: I welded up the aluminum hot water tank and reinstalled the water heater back in the trailer. I find it hard to believe how few parts there are to this thing. That being said I am having problems getting it to work. The hotwater heater fires up ok, but when it shuts off it blows out the pilot light. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
