July 13th
We got away from Brad and Denise’s place about 11am today. The trip from Dawson to ft Nelson was uneventful, we stopped in Ft st John for some Raunchy Ronnie’s then carried on. I found that there were a lot of RV’s for sale along the highway. Mostly fifth wheels, some campers, some trailers and even camperized vans. The hwy north of Ft St John was very smooth and must have been paved last year. It felt like we were on top of the world, at least for the praries. The highway ended up at 1162 meters at one point (near Sekanni ags field) which amazed me considering it is prarieland.
We stopped at Pink Mountian for fuel. An interesting little road stop that is 1150 meters above sea level at one point. I was driving near Trutch and found two instances where there were no power poles for miles, but there were two joined by wire with nothing around it…. Weird! It was around this time I noticed that the GPS wasn’t working, I gave it about 15-30 minutes then shut it off and turned it back on. The GPS worked fine after that. I wonder if all the thunder and lightning was playing havoc with it. Did I mention it was raining? Wow, lots of rain. It was cool at Pink Mountian store. I was filling with gas and the hail storm hit. Thunder and lightning all around us… very cool. I had to chuckle at the name as I passed over Bougie creek, but it had a nice little spot to stop and enjoy the creek. I saw it to late and so I didn’t stop.
There was bridge construction again, this time it was on the Muskwa River bridge. It had a stop light with a digital timer on it. I have never seen that before.
We are camped at the campsite on the North side of town. It has gthe coolest Museum I have seen since last spring break. This one is all local history. It has tons (read 50+) of old cars, some in excellent shape and the date from 1908 and newer. Some they were driving around. There was a 14,000 hp engine there, a trappers cabin, radio transmitters, old lawn mowers, tractors, cats, trucks, bicycles, old memorabilia. You just have to come and see it, it is worth the look. It cost only 5 bucks and well worth it! It is only 100m from the campsite too so you can walk.
