Today I gave the kids a quick beakfast consisting of a Nutri-grain bar yougart and fruit. We pulled out of our campsite at about 10am, filled the trailer with water and pulled into the day use area. We walked back down the boardwalk, this time with bearspray just to be safe. We stayed at played at the Alpha pool for as long as Rylan could take it. We left about 2pm (Rylan’s nap is between 11-12) and trucked’er back to the trailer. We had a huge meal of bacon eggs and bacon and left the site at about 3pm. We picked up a guy at Liard who was on the side of the road with his thumb in the air and a motorcycle tire at is feet. He looked safe enough and besides I had my gun sitting right there on the seat and my buck knife up on the dash. The guy turned out to be a pilot out of Fort Nelson and was on a bike trip with his dad. He was driving a KLR 650 which I had seen earlier at the campsite. I dropped him off and we continued on our way. The mountains were really starting to flatten out now. We passed a few abandoned places and even another trailer flipped over on the side of the road… yet another relic that didn't make the trip. We spotted buffalo on three separate occasions and got some pics and video, boy they are huge animals. Speaking of huge Rylan said the word “huge” vehemently for the first time just as we were pulling into the Watson Lake campground. He is so cute. Just out of Liard we stopped a Smith River Falls and got some good pics there. The falls are quite nice and about the size and volume of the Cheslatta Falls. There are some pretty big rivers along this stretch. We passed Coal River and Fireside communities. There seemed to be little to no life at either, so we continued up the highway on a quest for food and propane. We made Watson Lake and found a wireless connection so I updated my blog, checked my mail and made my presence known on the four wheeling forum. I noticed that Amanda posted my position (a map) on the forum when I was lounging around Muncho Lake. Well lounging hasn’t really facored into this equation yet as Rylan has really been keeping me running. This age is so much fun but a lot of work… I need a vacation!
So after I posted on the Blog we decided to go grocery shopping. Things got a little more pricey up here at Watson Lake. 900gms of cheese $18 and change, milk $6.99 for a gallon. A 30 pack of bottled water was 16 dollars for crying out loud. So I spent $109 dollars on too little and carried on my way. Got gas from the Tempo then headed out of town to the Watson Lake Provincal (I think) campground. Things run a little different here. I haven’t seen a parks guy yet but I do think I have to pay a fee here. Maybe I got here too late, it was between 8:30 and 9pm when I got here. I checked out the lake at 11pm at night and it is pretty big. Time to go to bed it is 20 to 12 and it is still quite light out there. People up here must have a hard time sleeping at night.
